Michael Cassel Group
The Michael Cassel Group is a live entertainment company formed to produce and present the world’s greatest musical and theatrical productions, live entertainment experiences, marquee events and concert attractions.
Lead by Michael Cassel, the company exclusively represents theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh and his productions in Australia. In this capacity, the company produced the acclaimed new production of Les Misérables which toured Asia with seasons in Manila, Singapore and Dubai, where the musical officially opened the Dubai Opera House. This followed a triumphant nineteen-month tour of Australia where the production received the Helpmann Award for ‘Best Musical’.
The company produced the Australian premiere of Kinky Boots at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne in October 2016. Kinky Boots is the winner of six Broadway Tony® Awards including Best Musical, as well as Best Direction and Best Choreography by Jerry Mitchell and a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein. Kinky Boots will transfer to Sydney in April.
The company will produce the Broadway smash-hit, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which will premiere in Sydney in September at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. The true story of the legendary singer’s journey from schoolgirl to international superstar features a book by Tony® and Academy® Award-nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Josh Prince and a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. The Broadway production won two Tony® Awards and the 2015 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
The company is co-producing The Chichester Festival production of Singin’ In the Rain, which completed a year-long tour of Asia with seasons in Hong Kong, Singapore and Manila along with New Zealand and South Africa, and a current tour throughout Australia.
In February 2017, the company will present Lea Salonga in Concert. The Tony® and Olivier Award winning star will make her Sydney Opera House debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and will join Orchestra Victoria for concerts at Hamer Hall at The Arts Centre Melbourne.
In addition to the group’s theatrical interests, the company represents former Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Julia Gillard, Olympic legend, Lord Sebastian Coe CH, KBE and media personality, Sami Lukis.
